Basic Potions
Lesson One: The Three C's of Potion Making. Our first lesson will be the three C's. This mnemonic device was developed by the Potion's DC and former headmaster Prof. Chauncey Clemenceau. Let's start with what a potion is. A potion is a magical liquid, cream, and/or substance. Potions have different kinds of uses such as medical, cleaning, beauty, heal or even to use as a prank. Every potion has a purpose and can be extremely useful. Potions are like baking or cooking, where you follow a recipe. However if you do not follow the instrucitons exactly horrible things can happen, such as explosions, poisoning and/or death. Fun, right? There are two rules for potion brewing:
1. Follow instructions to the letter. This means exactly. If it says to add three cups of stewed slug, add three cups and not three and three quarters. Why? If you do a potion incorrectly you could cause an explosion, poisoning, extra limbs, loss of limbs or even death. 2. If you do not understand, ask for help. Either myself or my TA will be able to assist you.
Now on to the Three C's of Potion Making: 1. Color 2. Content 3. Concentration
Color: This just means the color of your potion. There are times when a recipe will indicate what color your potion should be. It helps keep you on track and lets you know if you've added too much or too little of an ingredient.
Content: You must put the right amount and right ingredients into the mixture, anything other than exact could spell disaster. The ingredients must be exact according to the directions, only a skilled potion master should attempt substitutes and even then it's extremely dangerous. |
